www

First, we reviewed lectur of last week.
In last week, we learned about
what are digital media?
two more key points for the course
tristan tzara, william burroughs, david bowie and the method of “cut-ups” + overview of mini-project one
vannevar bush and his essay “as we may think”
who is douglas engelbart?
a reading of “augmenting human intellect”
douglas engelbart’s famous demo
(who is ted nelson?)
hypertext as a new form of reading and writing

Key points of past week were
1.When technologies connect or separate people, they become media.
2.Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical ideas and relationships.
3.When a medium is new, it is often used to simulate old media.
4.New media do not replace old media, they displace them.

This week learned about www(world-wide web).
Key point of this week is
•People make media and then media make people.
–This is another paraphrase from Marshall McLuhan’s book Understanding Media which was, in turn, a paraphrase of something Winston Churchill said about architecture.

So we learned about tim berners-lee.

what is the www?
answer 1: a collaboratively authored hypertext
answer 2: it is a standard
answer 3: the www is a vast, heterogeneous network of people and machines

And we learned anout ISO(international standards organization),IETF(internet engineering task force),RFC:(request for comments),html(hypertext markup language),http(hypertext transfer protocol).

ISO is a network of national standards institutes from 145 countries working in partnership with international organizations, governments, industry, business and consumer representatives. It acts as a bridge between public and private sector. It has created over 12,000 standards.

IETF is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet. It is open to any interested individual.

http is an internet protocol designed for transferring information for hypertext documents.

hypertext

It is already past a week.
Lecture for last wednesday was canceled.
So this week lectured once.

First, We reviewd lecture of last week.
I thought that summary about last lecture is well.
In last lecture, Imfortant two key points was
1.When technologies connect or separate people, they become media.
2.Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical ideas and relationships.

Focus of lecture of this week was
Hypertext: One way that digital media has been understood is as new forms of writing, reading and thinking.

Opening question was 'what does “digital media” mean?'
Key point was
•When a medium is new, it is often used to simulate old media.
•New media do not replace old media, they displace them.
–both of these points are paraphrases of ideas from Marshall McLuhan’s book Understanding Media.
We saw video about example 'cut-ups'.
tristan tzara's recipe for composing a poem, William burroughs, david bowie of method of 'Cut-ups'
and we learned about engelbart and ted nelson.
engelbart got inspiration from Vannevar bush('As we maythink') . And then he invented e-mail, mouse, window and the word processor. He saied augmenting human intellect.

I knew about engelbart in this lecture.
I think engelbat is genius.

introduction

For two lecture in this week, I learned about introduction to information technology.

first lecture, professor started lecture with powerpoint presentation."welcome to the present"he emphasised on two key points. 1.When digital media technologies connect or separate people, they become media.2.Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical ideas and relationships.he gave an instance. for instance, egg white, car...also, i learned about computer technology.'computer technology' does not necessarily start as silicon and gold.and 'computer technology' does not necessarily need to be implemented as hardware or software. But I almost didn't understand lecture.I want to study hard. but I am laborious because of english lecture.

In Friday, I learned about Vannevar Bush and solved questions about 'as we may think'.who was vannevar bush?vannevar bush’s “differential analyzer” what is the memex?specially, memex. The Memex was based on Bush's work during 1938-1940 developing an improved photoelectric microfilm selector.
I don't understand lecture fully.

I want to explain slowly or mix korean and english .
